Phillies Win GCL Crown
The Gulf Coast League Phillies won their league championship on Sunday, two games to one over the Nationals.
The Nationals won the first game of the series 5-1 then lost the final two.
The Phillies won the second game 5-4 and the title clinching game 9-0.
Phillies catcher Sebastian Valle hit a two run double in game two and added a first inning homerun in the final game of the series.
Both game two and game three were played today.
Valle hit .281 in 2008 with 15 doubles, 2 homeruns, 18 RBIs, and a .407 slugging percentage.
The Phillies had to defeat the Pirates in a one game semifinal to reach the championship series against the Nationals.
Rosters expand on September 1st, which means a handful of minor league players will be packing their bags, boarding planes, and heading towards their big club for the final month of play in the big leagues.
