The Greg Maddux trade between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers has finally been completed.
Since the Dodgers made the playoffs, reaching the NLDS, they had to send two of the top notch prospects to the Padres in return for Maddux.
If the Dodgers hadn’t made the playoffs then the players headed to the Padres in return would not have been of such high profile.
Maddux was sent to the Dodgers on August 19 to bolster their starting rotation and add a veteran to the pitching staff for the stretch run.
Maddux went 2-4 in seven starts with a 5.09 ERA with the Dodgers.
The Padres receive in return lefty pitcher Michael Watt and righty pitcher Eduardo Perez.
Watt was 9-4 with a 4.35 ERA for short season Ogden of the Pioneer League.
Perez was 4-2 with a 2.91 ERA with the Dodgers Gulf Coast League affiliate. He struck out 48 and walked only 14.
