Royals Set Staff for 2009

The Kansas City Royals have set their 2009 Minor League staff.

The Royals announced staff members for all of their Minor League affiliates on Friday.

Their Minor League staff for 2009 is as follows:

Omaha (Triple-A): Mike Jirschele, manager; Tom Burgmeier, pitching; Tommy Gregg, hitting; Drew Van Dam, trainer.

Northwest Arkansas (Double-A): Brian Poldberg, manager; Larry Carter, pitching; Terry Bradshaw, hitting; Chris DeLucia, trainer.

Wilmington (Class A): Darryl Kennedy, manager; Steve Luebber, pitching; Justin Gemoll, hitting; Dave Iannicca, trainer.

Burlington (Iowa, Class A): Brian Rupp, manager; Jerry Nyman, pitching; Pookie Wilson, hitting; Yoshi Kitaura, trainer.

Idaho Falls (Class A): Jim Gabella, manager; Carlos Martinez, pitching; Jon Williams, hitting; Masa Koyanagi, trainer.

Burlington, N.C. (Rookie): Nelson Liriano, manager; Bobby St. Pierre, pitching; Omar Ramirez, hitting; Mark Stubblefield, trainer.

Surprise, Ariz. (Rookie): Julio Bruno, manager; Mark Davis and Carlos Reyes, pitching; Kenny Munoz, hitting/scout; Tony Medina, trainer.

Roving positions: Doug Sisson, field coordinator; Tony Tijerina, assistant field coordinator/catching; Wathan, special assistant to player development/scouting; Jack Maloof, special assistant to player development; Fischer, pitching; Doug Henry, pitching; Andre David, hitting; Mark Harris, infield; Gregg, outfield; Quilvio Veras, bunting/baserunning; Ryan Stoneberg, strength and conditioning; Kyle Turner, medical coordinator; Dale Gilbert, rehab coordinator.

Mike Jirschele will be managing Omaha for the seventh consecutive season and his tenth overall.

The Royals are the first Major League organization to name their Minor League staff for the 2009 season.

Cubs Prospect Indicted

Chicago Cubs prospect Julio Castillo, 21, was indicted on charges of felonious assault on Thursday.

Castillo threw a ball into the stands and hit a fan in a game between Peoria and Dayton at Dayton. The fan was taken to the hospital and released after being treated for a concussion.

Castillo threw the ball towards the Dayton dugout during a bench clearing brawl trying to hit an opposing player but it sailed into the stands and hit a fan instead.

If Castillo is convicted of the crime he could face up to 16 years in prison for his acts. He will be arrainged on November 13th.

Castillo still remains in the Cubs organization but might be released pending his arraignment.
