Price Gets First Save
Rays prized prospect David Price, out of Vanderbilt, picked up his first Major League save on Sunday night in the Rays’ game seven win over the Boston Red Sox.
The win clinched a berth in the 2008 World Series for the Rays; their first trip in franchise history.
Price, who made his Major League debut in September, picked up a win and a save in the 2008 postseason and right now is considered the closer for the club against the Phillies in the Fall Classic.
Price came in with two outs in the top of the eighth and picked up a four out save. He struck out J.D. Drew in the eighth to end the inning and got Jed Lowrie on a fielder’s choice to end the game and the series in the ninth.
Price was drafted number 1 overall in the 2007 draft by the Rays and quickly climbed the organizational ladder to make it to the Majors in September.
He will now ready himself for another big step in his young, but brilliant career, pitching against the potent offense of the Phillies.
