Royals Announce Their Award Winners

The Kansas City Royals announced their organizational award winners on Monday afternoon.

Joakim Soria was named the Royals’ Pitcher of the Year, Mike Aviles was named the organization’s Player of the Year and Zach Greinke was named the Special Achievement Award winner.

Soria was named to his first All-Star Game and posted a 2-3 record with a 1.60 ERA with 42 saves. He blew only three. He posted the fourth-best single season mark of saves in Royals history.

Aviles hit .325 with 27 doubles, four triples, 10 homeruns and 51 RBIs. Aviles recorded 39 multi-hit games in 2008.

Greinke posted a 13-10 record in 2008 with a 3.47 ERA in 32 starts. Greinke allowed two earned runs or fewer in 19 of his 32 starts. He also passed the 200 innings pitched mark for the first time in his career.
