Terrell Young, a right handed flame thrower from the Cincinnati Reds organization, was chosen with the first pick in the 2008 Rule 5 Draft by the Washington Nationals.

Young’s fastball has been clocked at 98 MPH and his slider is thrown anywhere from 78-82 MPH.

He was originally drafted by the Reds in the 10th round of the 2004 Draft.

Nationals GM Jim Bowden and Nationals executive Bob Boone know Young from their days with the Reds franchise.

They were with the organization when Young was drafted in 2004.

He will have to remain on the Nationals 25-man roster for the entire 2009 season or will have to be offered back to the Reds for $25,000.

If the Reds decline, he stays with the Nationals and can be sent to the minors. If they accept, he will return to the Reds and the Nationals will receive $25,000.

When a player is drafted in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft, the team drafting the player has to pay the player’s original team $50,000 for the player.
