Marlins Interested in Turnbow

The Florida Marlins are interested in free agent reliever Derrick Turnbow. Turnbow was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies and has pitched in the Majors for the Anaheim Angels and the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Marlins are hoping to sign Turnbow to a Minor League contract and invite him to Spring Training with the purpose of trying to earn a spot in Florida’s bullpen for the 2009 season.

The Marlins need a veteran reliever in the bullpen that has lost Kevin Gregg to the Cubs via trade, Arthur Rhodes to the Reds via free agency and now Joe Nelson to the Rays via free agency.

Turnbow more than likely won’t be the closer for the Marlins in 2009 because that job will more than likely go to Matt Lindstrom even though Turnbow has 65 career saves.

His best season was in 2005 with the Brewers when he saved 39 games.
