Blue Jays Claim Two

The Toronto Blue Jays added two players to their Minor League system on Monday when they acquired shortstop Angel Sanchez and pitcher Kelvin Jimenez off of waivers from two different teams.

Sanchez was acquired off waivers from the Kansas City Royals after hitting .247 with two homeruns and 36 RBIs in 101 games between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha.

He hasn’t appeared in a Major League game since 2006 and missed all of 2007 after undergoing Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery.

Jimenez was claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. He spent the 2008 season with Triple-A Memphis in the Pacific Coast League. He posted a record of 1-6 with a 2.92 ERA in 46 outings as a reliever.

Jimenez posted a 5.63 ERA in 15 appearances with the big club Cardinals in 2008.

With the additions of these two players the Blue Jays roster has now reached its maximum of 40 players.
